The brief

The client

Contract manufacturer in China that takes Western inventors from product idea to mass production.

MorphoMFG develops and manufactures products for first-time inventors from its team in China, and had just launched MorphoEducation, a course and community for people learning to take a product to market. The email list was only getting a weekly newsletter, with no dedicated sales emails for either offer.

The ask

Make the emails more sales-focused: emails in the CEO's voice asking readers to book a call, twice a week, with one track for manufacturing clients and one for prospective students, plus the Weekly Insider newsletter.

Written for

People with an idea for a unique product who worry about cost, being taken advantage of, whether China is the right choice, and someone stealing their idea.

What I delivered

About 45 emails from June to October 2024: client and student sale emails, combined and value emails, Weekly Insider editions and a 5-email student series, nearly all signed by CEO Josh Fairbairn. Shown here: five of the sale emails.

What happened next

MorphoMFG kept me on for over two years: articles, YouTube scripts, a course launch and these emails.

The work

5 pieces, as delivered

Why it works 4 notes
  1. Subject line that needs explaining

"Why we might lie when you call us" gets the open. The email explains that the "lie" is that the word "manufacturing" undersells what the company does, which leads into the process pitch.

  2. A direct answer on idea theft

The email gives a reasoned answer to the reader's biggest worry: copycats copy products that already make money, not ideas with no sales. It then points to the bigger risk, which is moving too slowly.

  3. Checklist with red flags

The checklist email pairs each selling point with a red flag the reader can check any manufacturer for, including this one. It is useful on its own, and it explains why one-day quotes and guaranteed IP protection are warning signs.

  4. Student examples instead of claims

The student email describes three real student problems and how quickly each was solved. Readers see problems like their own (two products or one? a competitor already selling?) before the offer.

MorphoMFG · Email 1 - Why we might lie

SubjectWhy we might lie when you call us

Dear subscriber and innovator,

If you were to call us - as many do from these emails - and asked:

“So, you guys do manufacturing, right?”

Our business development agent might stop for a second, then say: “Yes”, even though deep down he’d know this isn’t the correct answer.

Or at least it wouldn't be the full answer.

Give me a minute to explain, because this could change how you do things in the next couple of years.

This is what “manufacturing” is:

You call a manufacturer with seemingly good reviews and history and say:

“Here are the design files, please make 1,000 of these.”

Then you pay and wait while you sort out legalities, shipping, assembly, all that jazz.

But are your design files cost-effective? Feasible? Validated? Who is the manufacturer outsourcing to? Are they specialized in your exact components, materials…

This is the stuff that comes back to haunt new innovators who want to see their product made.

This is what MorphoMFG is:

We start with a 30-day onboarding. You'll get a dedicated 7-person team in China. We'll dive into your product idea, run a feasibility study, and nail down the design specs.

Next is development. We'll create prototypes, tweak them with your input, and finalize your “golden prototype.”

We'll also start planning packaging and do a small test run.

Once you approve the prototype, all of us are 100% sure the design files are in their best possible state for your idea, then we move to manufacturing. We'll create molds and tooling, set up quality control, and manage the entire supply chain.

This hands-on, end-to-end approach sets us apart from manufacturers who simply produce from provided designs. We're here to guide you through every step, tackle challenges, and deliver a high-quality product that's ready for your customers.

And that is exactly why we get messages like these:

In case your email client is blocking images, you can read these reviews on our website here.

“I have hired Edvin for many projects over a couple of years and he is a phenomenal writer. I like his critical thinking skills and how he responds to feedback. My sense is that the bigger the project, the more engaged and effective he becomes. He once taught our team internally how to work more effectively with AI - and this wasn't a task I contracted him for. That's going above and beyond.”
