Travel-blog advertorials: GetYourGuide
Two sponsored travel-blog posts for a tour-booking app, written in each blogger's voice.
The brief
1The client
Travel app and marketplace for booking tours, attractions and activities, with 25+ million users at the time
GetYourGuide sells tours, tickets and activities through its app. These two pieces were written for travel blogs (journeyera.com and bucketlistjourney.net), so each had to read like the blog's own posts.
2The ask
A first-person post for each blog that recommends the app the way an experienced traveler would recommend it to a friend.
3Written for
Independent travelers who read travel blogs for tips and want to avoid tourist traps, long lines and disappointing tours.
4What I delivered
Two advertorials with title options. In the journeyera.com post, the author's best travel tip turns out to come from a review in the app. The bucketlistjourney.net post argues that life is too short for bad tours.
Native advertorials, first-person blogger voice
2 pieces, as delivered
Why it works 4 notes
- Opens with a common travel problem
The journeyera post compares the movie version of arriving in a new city with the real one: 2 hours to get out of the airport, tourist-trap taxis, too many choices. Readers recognize the problem before the app is mentioned.
- Shows the review feature in use
The Hong Kong tip reads like advice from another traveler, then turns out to be a review in the app. This shows the app's main feature, reviews from other travelers, as part of the story.
- Specific trip details
346 reviews, a 4.8-star rating, a pre-booked ticket, a discounted ride from the welcome bundle. Details like these make a sponsored post read like a trip report.
- Answers the obvious objection
The post admits there are many other travel apps, then gives reasons to choose this one: the founders travel, and the company is established.

My Best Travel Tips After 8 Years and 26 Countries
You’ve for sure seen many travel movies. The star lands in a big city, and before you know it, he’s hustling and bustling around on an electric scooter, stopping only for the best to-go coffee in town, on his way to a life-changing experience that the movie revolves around.
Now, in real life, you land in a new city, you know no one, you take 2 hours just to get out of the airport, there’s cabs, and taxis, and scooter rides everywhere but they’re tourist traps and not a special awesome deal just waiting for you.
Then you go to your place, take a shower, lie down and somehow get online, and start planning your stay. But in big cities, there are thousands of things to do.
What activity do you pick? How do you know you’ll like it? Are the hosts trustworthy? Will you waste a bunch of money just to spend half a day waiting in line and sweating while the experience turns out to be nothing like advertised?
After 8 years and many countries, I am happy… No, ecstatic… That there’s finally a way around all of that.
How other travelers can make or break your new-big-city experience
After traveling for so long, I realized that one of the best things I got from meeting other travelers was… Referrals!
For example, before traveling to Hong Kong, one traveler told me:
“When you get to Hong Kong, you’ve got to take the heli ride from the Peninsula Hotel, you’ll be blown away! It’s worth it, and bring your camera!”
And I did. If you’ve read my Hong Kong article, you know how much of a blast I had flying over Hong Kong.
He also told me how much it costs, how to make sure I don’t spend 2 hours waiting in lines, and all sorts of other tips for the whole city, not just that heli ride.
But here’s the thing… That Hong Kong traveler… I never actually met him
That’s right. While I did meet many people over the years and get all sorts of awesome referrals, this particular one was actually a review another traveler wrote in a travel app called GetYourGuide.
I decided to explain it this way because I really wanted to emphasize just how good this thing is for travelers.
So, the real story is:
I went to Hong Kong, opened up GetYourGuide, saw the Heli experience and decided it really looks fun, but I wasn’t sure. Then I saw the activity had 346 reviews and a 4.8-star rating.
The added benefit is that I was also able to pre-purchase my ticket and skip any lines because it told me when to be there exactly.
And since I was using the app for the first time, I used my “Welcome Bundle” bonuses to get a discounted Uber drive to the place.
I’m still not Ryan Gosling in a Hollywood blockbuster… But damn I’m close. If you want to find out how it feels, check out GetYourGuide.
Ready to Start Exploring New Cities Like a Movie Star?
GetYourGuide is a simple iOS & Android travel app that you can download and use for free. 25+ million users at the time of writing, and people seem to love it.
It’s no wonder. Exploring a new city can be a never-ending hassle as much as it can be a life-changing-movie experience. This app helps you have more of the latter.
You can use it to find experiences you know you will enjoy. You get details then and there, in the app, you can pre-book, see how other travelers liked an activity, and you can get exclusive deals too.
So how do you get started?
Simple. Go to GetYourGuide.com and see if you’d like this travel companion as much as I did. See you out there!

Why You Should Use GetYourGuide in Your Travels
If you’re a passionate traveler like me, the whole “life is short” thing, no matter how cliché, might be your vibe too.
And it really comes into play when you’re stuck in a 2-hour line for a tour in a new city that you’re not even sure you’ll enjoy.
Sometimes you end up having a great experience, and sometimes… Well, sometimes it’s a total waste of time and money.
For the longest time, I thought that’s just how it is. Suck on bad apples until you find an extraordinary one.
But then I realized it doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, I no longer wait in lines in new cities, I only spend money on activities I know I will enjoy, and I never stress about being there on time…
Beating Your Bucket List And Enjoying Every Experience
Sometimes, the activities we find in new cities just aren’t that good. When you’ve seen half the world and tried hundreds of things, you just know that a good portion of those will… suck.
So how do you beat your bucket list, but keep enjoying every city you visit like it’s the only one you ever will?
GetYourGuide might be the right answer. It certainly seems to be for their 25+ million users, and definitely was for me.
With GetYourGuide, you can really get immersed into experiences in a brand new city without any doubt that you’ll enjoy ’em.
It really takes the weight off of your shoulders.
The moment you start using it, you’ll be cruising through new city streets like you belong. Your confidence will soar because your next big thing is around the corner, already taken care of.
How Does GetYourGuide Help You Explore New Cities?
I might’ve been so hyped up about this that I’ve just realized I haven’t even told you what I’m talking about exactly.
GetYourGuide is a simple app that I discovered while exploring Thailand. It helps you find experiences in new places that 25+ million other people have enjoyed and rated.
That last part is crucially important.
Before booking your next experience through the app, you can see how other travelers rated it. This alone kills off a good amount of sucky experiences that you otherwise might have wasted time and money on.
Whether you’re looking for the best selfie spot in town, best local cuisine, tours, places to stay, sights to see or museums to visit… Without waiting in line, without worrying about open or close hours...
You do realize just how big this is for us travelers?
You can fly to a random country and once you’re there, open GetYourGuide and book your next activity with a couple of taps, avoid waiting in line or worry about tickets or passes, all free.
There Are Other Travel Apps (ugh, there are gazillions)
Before installing GetYourGuide, I went online to do some good ol’ looking. And boy, I was glad to see that their founders are travelers too. One of them traveled to over 70 countries in search of adventure. A check in my book for sure.
And what’s even better, they’re huge - like $1 billion in investments huge - and while I’m typically skeptical about big companies, I loved seeing this.
Why?
Because I’m tired of using half-assed travel apps that come from start-ups that always seem to be “in progress”, meaning they don’t have the necessary experience to really do a travel app right.
One of the things I really like is the amount of discounts and even free passes I got in their traveler’s Welcome Bundle.
There’s a ton more, and I really don’t want to write a full review, I just wanted to use this opportunity to share something that changed the way I travel.
So I’ll leave it at that for now, if you’d like to go ahead and see what’s waiting for you in their traveler’s Welcome Bundle on your own - visit GetYourGuide and download the app.
See you in the world, traveler!
